Nomad

Did you know that the nomadic culture have existed for a long, long time? Ever since time immemorial. I could say since mankind was hungry. A time when the concept of weekdays and weekends, the reason why the apple falls to the ground, and McDonalds, didn’t exist. When man (and woman; not sexist OK) was hungry, they go and hunt and gather food. When there’s no more, move on to another location saturated with food. I can’t put a date to that. That is a long, long, longgggggggggggg time ago. Most of my info i got from Wikipedia so bear with me.

After a while, men (and women; let’s treat this as both genders until said otherwise) became smarter and raised livestock, and farmed. These pastoralists (selamber je aku buat perkataan sendirik; coming from the word pastoralism) then moved on to greener pastures following their animals and replanting everythin. This is so that their beasts could eat (they’re picky. green grass – nyum. no grass – dead) and there’s good soil for the stuffs they planted.

The 3rd type of nomads are the peripatetic (bkn ‘pathetic’ aight) nomads. According to Answers.com, peripatetic means “One who walks from place to place; an itinerant” (OK i might need to look up ‘itinerant’ now). In the context of nomadic culture, they’re the ones who are skilled in certain crafts or trade and sell them to the people at one particular location and later move on to other locations to ply their trade. They could be musicians, smiths, animal handlers, engineers(?), etc. These people are also referred to as the nomads of industrialized nations.

The 3 groups are divided based on their economic livelihood. What they do for a living which forces them to shift from one location to another and another and another. When a certain location could not offer any more than it could or just have been sucked dry of resources and opportunities, man will relocate for a fresh start. That is what we can learn from the nomads – move on before you’re stuck to the ground and kills you (literally or figuratively). Question is, in this modern times, what consists of a ‘livelihood’ or ‘a living’? Well, that depends on the individual – is it a sparkling career? is it the taste of new cultures? is it finding your one and only and raising a family?

Figure it out, find it, and get it, or move on before you’re stuck to the ground. Thanks to the concept of time – the clock is ticking.

And that does it…

Now where did i put my Samsonite bag?
